Endorsement Explanations

City of Richmond Mayor

RVA Andreas Addison- IG Size

City of Richmond Mayor

Andreas Addison

RVA YIMBY is proud to support Andreas Addison for Mayor of Richmond. For the past eight years, Andreas lead the way on numerous initiatives to help make Richmond a thriving, urban city that provides access and opportunity for all residents. During his time on City Council and Planning Commission, his list of accomplishments include:

  • Fare-free GRTC
  • Expanding housing choice by legalizing backyard cottages (ADUs)
  • Implementing dense, transit-oriented development
  • Protecting the local housing supply by cracking down on short term rentals
  • Creating more homes by removing arbitrary parking requirements
  • Passing enabling legislation for progressive real estate tax reform (Land Value Tax)

As a small business owner, Andreas knows first-hand how an inefficient and overly complex City Hall becomes a drag on our residents, our small businesses, and ultimately, our housing market. His record demonstrates an ability to successfully promote housing abundance and affordability in the face of significant bureaucratic challenge. Every Richmonder (and future Richmonder) deserves a safe, stable, and affordable place to call home. RVA YIMBY looks forward to working with the Addison Administration on innovative and thoughtful solutions to our housing crisis that serve our entire city.

Every single Council District across the City is suffering from a shortage of affordable and multifamily housing. We need approximately 40,000 units of housing, irrespective of price point, in order to meet the demand from new residents, and to ease the strain for our existing residents. We know we also have to meet the needs of thousands of residents who need deeply affordable options. I am proud to have supported projects that have brought hundreds of new units to the 1st District, but we have quite a bit more work ahead of us to meet the needs of existing and future Richmonders.

RVA Andrew Breton- IG Size

City of Richmond Council District 1

Andrew "Gumby" Breton

RVA YIMBY endorses Andrew S. 'Gumby' Breton for Richmond City Council. Andrew is committed to expanding housing options through zoning reform, streamlined permitting, and support for ‘missing middle’ housing. His vision for affordable, accessible homes aligns with our mission to build a more inclusive and dynamic Richmond.

“The secret is out: Richmond is a fantastic place to live. Families are coming to this city, and we need to welcome them with a citywide plan to make drastically more homes. It will take high density in our growth nodes, gentle "missing middle" multifamily zoning in our residential areas, and large investments in programs that support deeply affordable homes.”

RVA Ellen Robertson- IG Size

City of Richmond Council District 6

Ellen Robertson

RVA YIMBY endorses Ellen Robertson for Richmond City Council. Ellen’s experience in securing funding for affordable housing, supporting mixed-income and transit-oriented developments, and advocating for zoning reforms shows a proven commitment to addressing the city's housing needs.

“It starts with our outdated zoning in the city of Richmond…we need to do a better job of communicating the benefits of denser, affordable housing in our own communities to combat the outdated NIMBY sentiments. The clearer and more transparent the outreach is, opposition is usually lessened.”
